Immediately prior to establishing National Benefits Consulting in July 1999, Alan was National Director for William M. Mercer (NZ) Limited, formerly known as Sedgwick Noble Lowndes (NZ) Limited. He established Noble Lowndes’ Wellington operation in March 1990, and was appointed to the Board in 1995 following its worldwide acquisition by the Sedgwick Group.
Prior to 1990 he was Regional Director of Jacques Martin (NZ) Limited. In this position he was responsible for the management of corporate accounts and the co-ordination of actuarial and other consulting services for client funds. He also performed a range of consulting assignments for clients.
Alan entered the superannuation industry with a Wellington-based life office in 1980 following a brief teaching career in senior physics and mathematics and, in 1984, was appointed to the position of Regional Manager.
In the previous 20 years he has performed consulting assignments in all areas of group insurance and group superannuation, including plan design, life insurer and health insurer selection, investment strategy, investment manager selection, scheme restructuring, surplus reversions, administration manager selection, master trusts, legal compliance, contract negotiation and member communications.
